Domestic Violence

Domestic violence is a pattern of violent and harmful conduct engaged in by a person against another person with whom they share an intimate relationship such as a spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend, or a roommate with whom there is an intimate relationship. It generally focuses on physical, sexual, and psychological attacks between adults, but can also include violence against children when they are physically injured during such acts of violence between adults or emotionally injured by observing them. Violent acts include, but are not limited to, a pattern of hitting, strangling, kicking, rape, suicide threats, controlling access to family resources such as time, money, food, and clothing, and controlling the victim’s time and activities. Most physical acts of violence, moreover, are accompanied by psychological abuse.
